Slow Cooker Chicken, Rice, and Vegetable Meal – Top Dog Tips

I love sharing the dog food recipes I have created, but I often get comments from readers and viewers saying they don’t have the time to prepare homemade meals for their dogs. I know there is nothing more convenient than buying dog food from the store and pouring it into a bowl for your pup. While homemade dog food can be time consuming, using a slow cooker makes it a lot more convenient.

Slow cookers are a lifesaver when it comes to preparing delicious meals in a hurry – for the people and dogs in your family. With a little water and some of the best healthy ingredients, your slow cooker will prepare food for your dog when you’re not at work.

I like prepping and freezing meals for dogs. That way, I can make enough food for a month in just a few days. If you’d rather give your dog a fresh meal every day, you can create a different dog food recipe every few days.

The amount of food you need depends (of course) on the number of your dogs, their size, their age and their level of activity. Some owners choose to supplement a commercial diet with homemade dog food. This gives the dog a more enticing meal and can cater to any specific nutritional needs that they may have.

As with any homemade dog food recipe, if your dog can’t eat chicken, you can substitute another source of protein. You can also substitute for other vegetables that are healthy for dogs if you have them on hand.

Slow Cooker Chicken Dog Food

Preparing dog food in a slow cooker is quick and easy. You can add the ingredients in the morning, go to work, and your pup will have a delicious, fresh meal when you get home. This recipe with chicken, rice, and vegetables will delight even the most picky of palates.

  • Author: Samantha Randall
  • Preparation time: 15 minutes
  • Cooking time: 8 hours
  • Total time: 7 minutes
  • Yield: 10– –12th Cups of food 1x
  • Category: Dog Food
  • Method: Slow cooker
  • Kitchen: Dog Food
  • 1 cup Brown rice
  • 2 cups water
  • 1/2 Pound of green beans
  • 1 medium sweet potato (diced)
  • 3 Carrots (diced)
  • 6th Boneless and skinless chicken thighs
  • 1 Bag of Frozen Spinach

With the exception of the spinach, add the ingredients to the pot as listed above. Cook for 8 hours on low heat. Chop the chicken, add the spinach and let the food cool completely.

If you work outside of the home, this recipe is a great alternative to meals that you need to fix on a daily basis. You can put the ingredients in the slow cooker before you go to work and when you get home Fido’s meal is ready. Plus, you can cook the food in bulk so you only have to cook about once a week.

You can serve this food to your dog once it has cooled down. I recommend feeding around half a cup of food for every 20-25 pounds of body weight. This recommendation applies to 2 servings per day. So a 25 pound dog would eat about half a cup in the morning and half a cup in the evening.

This is just a guideline. Some dogs, like working dogs and very active breeds, require more calories than these. Lazy pets and older dogs may not need that many.

It is best to ask your veterinarian about the right portion size for your dog. They will also help you evaluate the meal to make sure it meets your pet’s individual nutritional needs. If necessary, they will help you choose the best nutritional supplements and / or multivitamins.
