Slow cooker beef stew for dogs and humans
The best thing about homemade dog food is that you can substitute for ingredients if you want. If your dog is allergic to beef or just prefers a different meat, you can use something different instead. You can also substitute for seasonal vegetables or dog-friendly vegetables that you’ve grown in your yard.

This beef stew recipe is healthy for dogs and a hearty meal for people too! You can toss the ingredients in your slow cooker and the stew will be ready when you get home from work. You can also replace the beef with chicken and you have two delicious recipes instead of one.
- 1 pound of beef stew meat
- 1 tablespoon. Coconut oil
- 2 large carrots (chopped)
- 1 cup green beans (chopped)
- 1 zucchini (chopped)
- 1 sweet potato (chopped)
- 1/2 cup of flour
- 1.5 cups of water
I put the water and flour in my slow cooker first and whisk until everything is well mixed. When you finish the stew, you will get a thicker sauce. However, you can skip this step if you prefer a watery consistency.
After adding the water and flour (or just water), add all of the other ingredients to the slow cooker. Cover and cook on low heat for 6 hours. Once the stew is completely cool, it is ready to be fed to your dog.

How much to feed: I recommend feeding around half a cup of food for every 20-25 pounds of body weight. This recommendation applies to 2 servings per day. This is just a guideline. Lazy pets and older dogs may not need that many. It is extremely important to consult your veterinarian to determine the best serving size for your dog.
How to store: You can store or freeze the leftover dog and human beef stew in an airtight container in the refrigerator for 3-5 days and it will keep for up to 3 months. Keep in mind that there are no preservatives in this recipe, so it won’t last nearly as long as commercial dog food.
